Beth Dean Plein Air Paint Workshop


1-Day Plein Air Workshop-with Beth Dean-Thursday September 13th 9-4

Learn the basics of Painting in Plein Air. This class is for beginners or seasoned artists who want to learn methods and tips for Plein Air Painting. This class will include a demo and opportunity to paint on location with instructor assistance.  Beth will teach in oils but all mediums are welcome. Cost is $55 per person. If you sign up for 1 day of Plein Air paint out, you may take this class free. You still must register. Supplies are not included. They are as follows:

  • Outdoor easel or pochade setup

  • Plein air umbrella (not required but helpful)

  • 2-3 small canvas panels, no larger than 11”x14” (my favorite brand is Pintura). For painting outdoors, stretched canvas is not as suitable.

  • Odorless solvent (Mona Lisa or Gamsol Brands are preferred)

  • Solvent container

  • 4-6 assorted sizes of brushes

  • Palette knife

  • Paper towel roll

  • Sketchbook

  • Hat

  • Sunscreen, bug spray, baby wipes

·       Back pack to transport the listed supplies

  • Professional grade oil paints (not student grade). Whatever palette of colors you are comfortable with. The color palettes and brands I use are:

    • Tltanium Zinc White – Gamblin

    • Cadmium Yellow Light - Gamblin

    • Cadmium Yellow Deep – Rembrandt

    • Transparent Oxide Red – Rembrandt

    • Cadmium Red Light – Gamblin

    • Alizarine Crimson – Gamblin

    • Diazonine Purple – Winsor Newton

    • Ultramarine Blue – Gamblin

    • Pthalo Blue – Gamblin

    • Sap Green – Gamblin
