The formal announcement of the Elaine Memorial was 4/10/18 at Court Square in Helena, Arkansas. In 1919, near Elaine, scores of black citizens were killed in circumstances that to this day are not well known to many people. Hopefully, this will help change that. This memorial is to honor their memories. It was funded by the family of David Solomon, a long time Helena attorney and civic leader. In the photograph, US District Judge Brian Miller, who had relatives killed during the 1919 event, spoke of how this can be a healing for all of Phillips County.
